FAQs

An internal hard drive (HDD) is a storage device fitted inside a desktop PC or laptop. Internal HDDs store your operating system, installed applications, files, games, and media.
An HDD uses mechanical spinning platters to store data, making it a reliable and cost-effective option for large storage capacities, though it is slower than an SSD. An SSD (Solid State Drive) uses flash memory with no moving parts, delivering significantly faster read and write speeds. For everyday use, many users choose an SSD for the operating system and an HDD for bulk storage.
For gaming, a high-capacity HDD of 4TB or more works well as a secondary storage drive for your game library, allowing you to keep a large collection of games installed and easily accessible.
For most home users, a 2TB hard drive provides enough space for everyday files, a moderate game library, and system backups. If you store large amounts of video, run a media server, or maintain a large game collection, 4TB to 6TB is a more suitable choice. Content creators working with 4K video or RAW photography may benefit from 8TB or more, while NAS and professional storage systems often use drives ranging from 10TB to 16TB.
Not all PCs support internal hard drives. While most desktop PCs and many laptops support 2.5-inch or 3.5-inch HDDs, slim laptops, Ultrabooks, and many modern notebooks use only M.2 storage slots and do not include a 2.5-inch drive bay. In these cases, an internal SSD or an external hard drive is the better option.
